CENTER FOR BIOETHICS
The Center for Bioethics is charged mainly with research and expert activity in the field of ethics. Ethics is an integral part of critical philosophy and, alongside, a normative study; actually both traits of ethics bring about heuristic troubles and require an exceptional approach in research. Due to these problems an interdisciplinary team of experts from the First Medical Faculty as well as from other university organizations, academy and other institutions has been established with the aim to participate on the inquiry "Goals of Medicine: Quality of Life" number CEZ:J13/98:111100007 that has been authorized by the Czech government; the assignment of this endeavor is to make the concept of health, that is of utmost value for medicine, precise. The results of research are published in world and Czech journals or books and presented on conferences or other international meetings. The Center for Bioethics coordinates annually a symposium with the participants from abroad and with the topic derived from the inquiry itself.
Also other forms of cooperation with various organizations from abroad are pursued (Hastings Center in New York, University in Linköping, University in Würzburg, University in Wittenberg etc). Some associates of the team are also members of various expert institutions (Society for Medical Ethics, Czech Medical Society of Jan Evangelista Purkyne) and committees (Ethics Committee of Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic, Bioethics committee of the Government Council of the Czech Republic) and they participate on formulation of various documents and laws made by those bodies.

PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGICAL LABORATORY
Psychophysiological laboratory is a place for basic and clinically oriented research in psychophysiology and cognitive neuroscience. Purposes of this research are mainly relationships between mental and physiological functions above all in cases of psychopathological disorders such as dissociative disorders, depression, schizophrenia etc., but also in other mental disorders which can be related to certain somatic diseases.
Laboratory works in close cooperation with Psychiatric Clinic of 1st Faculty of Medicine and other institutions of University Hospital. Next to the research is a purpose of the laboratory also education primarily focused on Ph.D. students.

RESEARCH ON THE MOTIVATION OF STUDENTS FOR THE STUDY AND THE PROFESSION
The research on the motivation of students of the 3rd years is done in our Institute every year since 2005. The motivation for the study, influences (both positive and negative) on the motivation during the studies on Medical faculty and ifluences on the decision for this study are discovered.
